Addition and Subtraction

These are great games to play to help your child with understanding addition and subtraction!

1-Addition Dice roll

You will need:
2 dice with numbers 0, 1, 2 and 3 on it.
Manipulatives (goldfish, cereal, beads, beans, etc.)



Directions:

To begin: Put all manipulatives in a center "pot" to take from upon each person's turn.

To play:
1-Roll dice.
2-Add the two numbers together and take that many manipulatives from the "pot."
3-first person to have 10 wins!


2-Subtraction Dice Roll (with same materials)

You will need:
1 die with numbers 0, 1, 2 and 3 on it.
Manipulatives (goldfish, cereal, beads, beans, etc.)

To begin:
1-each person takes 10 manipulatives and puts the rest in the pot.
2-roll the one die and take that many away from your 10 and put in the center pot
3-first one to get rid of all their manipulatives, wins!

Game board for each player
Dice with +1,-1,+2,-2,+3,-3
Manipulatives for each player

Directions for Beginner play:
1-roll dice
2-follow directions on dice (+1,-1, etc.)
3-add that many manipulatives to your own board
4-player to reach 10 wins!




Directions for Advanced play:
1-roll dice
2-follow directions on dice
3-move 1 manipulative over like a game board
4-player to reach 10 wins!

Roll and Record

You will need:
Game board for each player
2 playing dice
crayons/pencils/markers or manipulatives if you wish to reuse the boards

To play:
1-roll dice
2-add two dice together
3-graph the sum on the board
4-continue rolling and graphing until you find a sum winner


Fast Math Card Game

You will need:
playing cards (remove K, Q, J)

To Play:
1-2 players will take equal amount of cards, face down in their hand
2-on the count of three, each player will flip over their top card and place side by side in the middle
3-players race to see who can find the sum of the two cards
4-the player to CORRECTLY announce the sum gets to take their cards to their pile on the table
5-the player with the most cards at the end wins!

**(This can also be played using subtraction! This is really great practice helping students remember to look at the larger number and count down or back!)**
